On a Personal Note-Memorable Firsts

Hello everyone! Summer is just about over and it's been jam packed with adventure and memorable firsts for our family.

My father, Robert, celebrated his 90th birthday with an eventful evening bash complete with a local barbershop quartet who serenaded us with "oldies but goodies".

My son, Shane completed his first year at a local university and made the honor roll while holding down a part time job.

Last month, my daughter, Vanessa exchanged wedding vows with Jason in an evening garden ceremony.

Topping off July was a coastal backpacking trip with my husband, Michael and another couple after a 25 year hiatus from such activity.

What makes these events memorable is not only the event itself but our unique perspectives about them. Here are my perspectives of these events:

To turn 90 and be healthy and happy is a very large feat and quite a blessing.

I had not imagined how much work planning a wedding was, particularly when my daughter was in Korea and returned home a week before the wedding, luckily most things were in place long before her return.

To finish your first year in college relatively unscathed and eager for another year is admirable.

Going backpacking in your mid 50’s is well, crazy,(at least for me) but being pushed to the limit and even hiking 7 miles on the last day and considering going again is even more “mashugana”-(sorry, I don’t know how to spell in Yiddish)

I trust that you have enjoyed adventures and memorable firsts of your own this summer.
