Does Your Business Have a "Soul Purpose?"

Soul Purpose= Passion & Practicality

The majority of you are passionate about what you do whether you are an energy healer, massage therapist, chiropractor or in another holistic modality. If you've been in business for awhile you know, however that passion alone is not enough.  Of course the bills must be paid yet "just surviving” is not going to cut it.  If you’re in survival mode with your business please listen up. You were not meant to struggle "in your business" and you deserve a practice/business that is thriving.  Soul Purpose businesses are ones that bring together your passion and practicality for thriving results.

Three Helpful tips to create a "soul purpose” thriving business:

  • Take good care of yourself and ask for help when you need it.  Is you heart and the service you offer lined up?  In other words, are you doing what you were meant to be doing and how do you know?  If you’re like most holistic practitioners the answer is a resounding “yes”  You are attracted to alternative ways to support people to heal and it’s a calling not just a career.  What if, however, you’ve lost your initial passion you once had?  Have you taken on too much and you’re running a one person show when you require a team. If this is the issue then you just need more support and this is a fixable goal.  As most know, burnout can occur when you are not taking care of yourself.  How well do you know yourself? Can you confront your diminishing passion and get clarity on your next step?  The answers to these questions will be a determining factor in your success.

I knew someone whom I’ll call Donna, an emerging business owner, running a retail store selling metaphysical/spiritual products.  She worked all the time and felt the need to put in long hours for her business to thrive.   She had teenagers who were pulling for her time and attention and they began acting out.  As a single parent she felt an enormous amount of pressure to provide for her children but had very little time/energy left for her children, let alone herself.  Luckily, she realized before too long, that her life was way out of balance as she was doing everything herself. She began to dislike her business and wondered if she had made a huge mistake. Once she began to identify her core beliefs and her  misconceptions about running a business she was able to ask for help and began to spend time away from the store and more time with her teenagers. She hired people on her budget who were happy to help (college students, stay at home mothers) Her passion for running her business actually increased as she began to do only the things she loved most about running her business and accepted help for other areas she didn’t care for.

  • Build your business with integrity by marketing authentically: Shore up what you love to do in a passionate, enthusiastic, sincere way.  Start by asking yourself what way you can promote your business that you will enjoy. (I don't need to tell you that you must do something to promote your products/business)

Do what you love first of all.  Later you might decide to stretch and take on something new. Do you love to write articles and design products?  Do you love meeting new people?  Do you love to public speak? (Most people must learn to do this by desensitizing through repetition-Toastmasters is a great place to start to help develop your confidence with public speaking)  The point is if you really  dread public speaking then don't do this.  Find at least two, preferably 3 things that you enjoy keeping in mind your innate talents.  You may find yourself getting creative in your marketing efforts by joining with others who have similar interests.

  •  Live from your outcome-this is a whole class in itself but in a nutshell you must envision with specificity what kind of outcome you want for your business. Create SMART goals (specific, measurable, achievable, realistic and with a time frame) Once you’ve determined this then imagine this outcome at least daily.  There are so many ways to make this fun and realistic.

 Examples:

  • Make a vision board with words or pictures of your  outcome/ideal business and put it somewhere you will look at it  regularly
  • Write down your outcome on a card that you carry with you everywhere and look at it and read it out loud at least 3 times a day
  • Read your outcome before going to bed (subconscious mind is 100% obedient and reading before bedtime helps activate this)
  • Join  or start a mastermind group where you support each other to live  from your outcome
  • Post notes around your home/office that you look at regularly to keep you imagining your sucessful business

Remember to savor your journey as you grow your soul purpose business.  The blessing is in the journey and not the destination.
